 I have a great love for healthy hair care.  I work in the health care industry as a Registered Echocardiography Technologist residing in Atlanta, GA.  The idea of starting a blog site about hair began with a phone call between my cousin I about our current hair routines and product review.   It was during that conversation that I entertained the idea of sharing my knowledge with others.  I also realized how important it was for me to share the views of both relaxed hair and natural hair from personal and educational experiences. Hello My Hair Divine friends! I am representing women with relaxed hair. I want to share with you my hair story and take you with me as I travel on my journey to a hairway of success. I have done countless days of research on healthy hair care regimens and hair biology. I have a greater understanding of how hair works and I want to give others insight on the knowledge that I have gained. I have been featured as a hair model in several hair magazines including, Sophisticate’s Black Hair, Hotlanta, and StyleQ. Though I consider myself no modeling professional by far, these fun experiences have given me the opportunity to show off the health of my hair and have motivated me to maintain it.   

After years of hair abuse from chemical over processing, improper daily moisturizing and lack of deep conditioning, I am finally on the right track to a healthy hair care regimen that is leaving my hair in its healthiest state ever. Nowadays, I like to think of myself as a healthy hair care advocate.  Now I’m not a licensed cosmetologist but a certification in hair doesn’t declare someone to be a guru of healthy hair either. In fact, many cosmetologists are not taught healthy hair care practices like using appropriate products for healthy hair and heat free hair styling.   

For the past couple of years, I have been going to my hair stylist consistently every week.  Surprisingly, that did not put my hair in its greatest shape. I had to learn that it took more than just going to the salon every week to achieve great hair. My money was working hard and my hair was not reaping the benefits. I eventually started to incorporate “hair homework”, which are simple steps of maintaining my hair correctly at home. I was always inconsistent about wrapping my hair in a satin scarf at night, moisturizing daily, and staying away from daily heat styles. As a result, I suffered from dry and brittle hair, severe dandruff and uncontrollable scalp psoriasis.   

   Currently my hair regimen consists of Daily hair rinsing…and yes, I did say daily! I stopped using shampoo when I realized how bad it made my hair dry out. I deep condition my hair with natural products that do not consist of harsh chemicals. Many hair care products that are in drug stores are made up of complex molecules and chemical compounds that layers the hair strand with synthetic composites. I believe that chemical free hair products use a variety of essential oils and extracts to accomplish natural results the way God intended. That is why I frequently make my own conditioners and hair spray by using ingredients straight out of my kitchen. I also give myself weekly hot oil treatments as a pre-rinse conditioner. Hot oil treatments are great for dry hair because it prevents and reduces existing damage to the hair. Now my once severely flaky hair does not exist anymore and my scalp psoriasis has disappeared. I take hair vitamins daily and I eat a diet that is high in protein. My hair stylist, friends and family can’t believe the change in texture that my hair now have. In addition, I have included monthly protein treatments or bi-weekly keratin reconstructor treatments. Moisturizing hair is a must! I use a light hair lotion daily and I seal moisture in my hair by using virgin coconut oil. Hair lotions that are water based penetrate the hair shaft and oils are used to seal the moisture in or out by coating the hair. This moisturizing technique truly reduces breakage and shedding. I rarely use heat to style my hair.   

I am beyond doubt fascinated with hair! It gives me great joy to educate people on proper hair care techniques based on my knowledge and experience.

    I totally agree with you about being licensed doesn’t make you a haircare guru. I am a licensed cosmetologist, but I didn’t learn any hair care while I was in cosmetology school, I had to take the time to go to tradeshows and seminars, as well as just taking my own time to learn hair care. For a lot of stylist it’s not a top priority, their main focus is the money, but it you can’t keep your client’s hair on their head, you won’t be making much money! Thanks for the info and the site!
